I’m Erica and I come from Motril, Granada in the South of Spain.
I’m a fully qualified Modern Foreign Languages teacher and am currently second in department at an excellent school in Wakefield.
Outside of work, I love languages in all forms, travelling, meeting new people, NYC, social media, the sea, coffee, music, reading and shopping!
My Teaching Experience
Before becoming a teacher, I spent five years studying for a degree in English Studies and then completed an MA in English Applied Linguistics.
In 2010, I decided to move to England as I had always loved the country. I spent a few years working as a language assistant in different school across the UK, which gave me plenty of experience as well as the chance to travel and meet wonderful people.
I started my teacher training in 2014 and learnt a lot through my studies and an incredible mentor. It was one of the hardest years of my life as I worked non-stop and had hardly any time to relax, but it was certainly worth it as I got my first teaching job as an NQT the following year.
In 2017, we made the big move to Yorkshire! We absolutely love it here and I’m very lucky to have spent the past two years working in a wonderful school.
Throughout my journey, I’ve experienced a lot and have met people from many different backgrounds. Thanks to this, I have a much clearer idea of what I want to do in the future!
About Spanish & Umbrellas
Just over a year ago, my partner Antonio and I decided to give shape to one of our biggest projects, Spanish & Umbrellas – a complete resource for Spanish teachers and learners. It’s something that we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and now felt the right time to do so. Plus, having a graphic designer at home certainly makes things easier!
The aim of our website is to help teachers plan their lessons faster and maximise their students’ learning. It can also aid learners who need some extra resources to practise their language skills.
We’re adding new resources all the time and have many more ideas that we will implement as soon as we can. As a full-time teacher, it’s hard finding the time for everything I want to do, but we will get there as usual!
So far, we’ve had some great comments from lots of people about our website, which we really do appreciate! We hope you continue to use our resources and leave us your feedback, as we will always listen and take it into consideration.
