Supporting MFL learners with SEND – Workshop

Looking for an approach to help your MFL learners with SEND feel and be successful?

This course will offer the opportunity to reflect on the barriers and opportunities that learning a language can present to learners with SEND.

💡 The course leaders will share strategies, ideas and approaches which have been proven to support and challenge learners with SEND to be successful.

Speakers:

  • Erica Sánchez
Erica is the Head of Languages at a secondary school in South Yorkshire and has been teaching since 2015. She holds an MA in Applied Linguistics and teaches Spanish, French, and German. Passionate about language education, she has led initiatives to boost uptake, mentored teachers, and managed staff. Beyond the classroom, she consults for the BBC, examines for AQA, and presents at events like Linguascope and the Language Show. She also runs Spanish and Umbrellas, offering workshops and resources to support MFL teachers worldwide. Erica is committed to building positive relationships with students and helping all learners succeed in languages.

  • Ellie Atack
Ellie is a senior manager in a school in Leeds, and leads on MFL, ECT and ITT provision. Ellie has taught and lead across the MFL ability range in schools in the North of England for 14 years. Ellie also leads the Leeds Subject Leader Development meetings for MFL subject leaders, and delivers ITT and ECT CPD across the city. Ellie has an NPQ in leading teacher development, and has worked with Teach First to develop their NPQ resources. Ellie is passionate about supporting and challenging children of all abilities to feel and be successful in languages, and about supporting and challenging colleagues to ensure that no child is left behind.
